Harbormaster Notes: When using any fiberglassing supplies, surface preparation is crucial. Begin with a clean dry surface. Mix only as much hardener and resin as you can use in a 15 minute period. It is preferable to mix smaller batches more often, than a large batch as it may begin to set-up prior to your being able to spread it. NEVER mix in a metal coffee can or bucket. They contain the heat of the chemical reaction and cause the epoxy to catalyze too quickly. Remember that weather conditions also affect curing time of epoxy and other resins. Warmer weather “kicks” the epoxy and causes it to cure in a shorter amount of time. Cooler weather gives a longer cure time.
